Arwen and Azerdash- the ultimate underdogs…
Lindsay Buroker is such a fantastic writer! She could use her talents to tell any story but she employs them in telling the tale of the unique, the outnumbered and the socially awkward. Long after I’ve read them, I remember her books because the characters stand out and I relate with them.
In this series, she introduces us to Arwen, half human and half dark elf. The dark elves are hated and hunted and although she had no say in her origin, Arwen struggles with the shame of her heritage. Within the first few pages we also meet Azerdash, the half elven, half dragon who is being hunted by those who hate both his mixed blood and all his kind remind them of.
As they band together to fight the demons that hunt them and the demons of their own minds, they become stronger than anyone realized. I love watching these two misfits confront prejudice, insecurity and mortal danger. It’s so fun watching them grow and evolve. In the end, they are able to do what more prestigious and powerful beings have tried and failed to accomplish.
This is a delightful read full of adventure, romance and memorable characters.
Arwen is thrust into the spotlight…
Arwen Forester may be a socially awkward introvert, but she’s also a master tracker, expert archer, and forager with a pickling recipe for every vegetable in the garden. Unfortunately, none of these talents pay the bills. And with taxes rising on her father’s farm, she’s running out of options—until a dangerous opportunity lands in her lap.
The job? Hunt down a notorious half-dragon fugitive with a fiery temper—literally. Azerdash Starblade can incinerate anyone who crosses him. But Arwen doesn’t have to fight him, just tag him with a tracking device. Easy money… or so she thinks.
What starts as a desperate mission soon turns into something far more personal. Arwen isn’t just chasing a bounty—she’s running from her own dark-elven past, determined to erase the tattoo that binds her to her mother’s sinister kin. The last thing she needs is for them to use her against Azerdash—the very man she’s begun to care for.
When a long-lost elven comrade reveals the whereabouts of an ancient galaxy blade, one powerful enough to restore Azerdash’s rightful place as a leader, Arwen is forced to make a choice: pursue her own freedom or stand by his side in a war that could change everything.
But dragons and deadly enemies lurk in the shadows, ready to kill to keep Azerdash from reclaiming what is his. And when an old love from his past—one he believed long dead—returns, Arwen faces her greatest battle yet.
Can she fight for a future with Azerdash, or will the ghosts of their pasts tear them apart?

What I love about Tracking Trouble by Lindsay Buroker:
I love the excellent writing, fantastic characters and terrific story. This series answers questions and provides a very satisfying conclusion to some of the storylines threaded through the Death Before Dragons and Legacy of Magic series.
What I didn’t love about it:
The only thing I didn’t love was that the story, particularly involving the dark elves, can get a little dark. It makes sense and is integral to the storyline but it does get rather dark and intense.
Spice level:
This series is medium in terms of spice. The main characters have a relationship that eventually becomes physical but it is mostly left to the imagination and not too explicit.
Language:
This series has a few mild swear words. They were always appropriate to the scene and character.
Violence:
This series is medium in terms of violence. There is action and suspense as well as danger and people being held against their will. There are some scenes with the dark elves especially that get intense but it never got bad enough that I felt I needed to skip pages. I’m a violence wimp so what feels rough to me might not bother others at all.
Length:
This series has five books. They are medium length, around 350 pages each.
