Pandora's Pride by Annabel Chase

Caution! Watch for secrets, betrayal and magic! A review of the Pandora’s Pride series by Annabel Chase

Pandora’s Pride series by Annabel Chase includes the following books: Double Down on Demons, High Stakes and Vampires, Five Card Fae, Wild Cards and Witches

Your next escape is waiting…

Annabel Chase is a gifted author, which she proves again in Pandora’s Pride. She elegantly weaves this story of intrigue and betrayal, peppered with magic and romance. This was a series I could not put down!

Our heroine Callie is twenty-five and finds herself an orphan and seeking revenge for her father’s murder. She’s grown up in the mountains, doing the dangerous work of escorting travelers through the vampire and monster infested wilderness. Thus, she has terrific survival skills but not much in the way of social graces.

This story is so fun because the unofficial leaders of the city she ends up in recognize something special in her immediately. And you get the feeling it’s more than just her tough and solitary upbringing. It’s so fun to watch her uncover gifts and abilities that keep the reader guessing at who she really is.

It has a sweet love story and tons of intrigue. While I really only read books I believe have a happy ending- it’s fun when you can’t predict exactly how the characters will get there. This is something Annabel Chase does very well. This series definitely has a happy and satisfying ending and yet you get to be surprised along the way.

This is an exciting and engrossing tale and will likely keep you up too late finishing it!

Callie is a girl you should bet on…

Callie’s father always spoke of Atlantic City with disgust. It was a place to avoid at all costs—a soul-sucking town even without the demons. Living across the country, the father-daughter team worked by day as mountain guides, and dad secretly trained Callie in her magic use at night. However, she was forbidden to use her powers in public—a rule she followed until his untimely murder.

With nothing left to lose, she finds herself following the trail of his killer, heading straight to Atlantic City, where she is recruited by an elite monster-hunting team- Pandora’s Pride. Among them is Saxon, a captivating hybrid who she finds herself continually drawn to. Thrust into a casino town run by vampires, she becomes a supernatural agent, trading mountains for skyscrapers and continuing the hunt for her father’s murderer.

As she trains alongside the Pride, she struggles to master her developing powers and navigate her place among seasoned warriors. Meanwhile, her growing feelings for Saxon are complicated by strict rules forbidding their relationship.

When the team learns of a powerful magical artifact, the Sunstone, their priorities shift. The quest for the artifact unearths long-hidden secrets and painful betrayals that test her resolve far more than any battle against a Plague demon ever could. The revelations shake her to the core, leaving her questioning everything she once believed.

Callie’s life has never been so complicated, but she’s ready to bring her A-game. The Pride may have raised the stakes, but they never anticipated the wild card in their deck.

Pandora's Pride by Annabel Chase

What I love about the Pandora’s Pride series by Annabel Chase:

I love pretty much everything about this series- it really is one of my favorites! The characters draw you in and let you get to know them. The writing is just fantastic. Annable Chase tends to use only as many words as needed to tell the story. Thus it’s easy to read and you don’t get bogged down in unrelated detail. It’s just a great story!

What I didn’t love about it:

I really can’t think of anything.

Spice level:

This series has little spice, nothing more than a couple of kisses. There is definitely a romance woven throughout but the focus is on the action.

Language:

There are a few mild swear words and no F-bombs

Violence:

This story is mild to medium in terms of violence. There is plenty of action and danger but nothing I consider too graphic or explicit.

Length:

These books are on the shorter side- perfect for those like me who get bored! There are four books in the series and they each have around 200 pages.
