Midnight Empire: The Tower series by Annabel Chase includes the following books: Wild Knight, Three Dog Knight, Deadly Knight, One Night Stand
A heroine for a dystopian world…
This series by Annabel Chase (one of my favorite authors!) can be read as a standalone story, which is told through these four books. But if you like this series, there are actually two more series set in this same dystopian world. Each series follows a different heroine in a different part of the world as they fight to survive and save those around them.
This is one of those series that I stayed up way too late reading because I couldn’t put it down. I love the heroine and her band of knights! There is danger and intrigue and a fantastic story of love, redemption and learning to trust.
The Midnight Empire: The Tower series follows London, a half-vampire, half-witch whose very existence is illegal. She lives in former Great Britain fifty years after the Great Eruption, when ten super-volcanoes exploded, shrouding the world in darkness and releasing creatures thought to be myth.
In this new world vampires rule without mercy and everyone else is either a tool or a meal. When London’s work as a knight puts her in league with the vampire prince she must use every trick in the book to keep her lineage and abilities from being discovered. This becomes even more difficult when she realizes she’s falling for the misunderstood royal.
Reading is so much about personal preference. I love Annabel Chase but even if she’s not your style of writer, I think there are few who would argue she’s not an excellent storyteller. Her writing is concise without omitting important details. Her characters are multidimensional and believable. And her plots are exciting and have a great arc. This series is a great place to start if you are new to her work!
London has a secret…
In a world covered by darkness, where royal vampires reign supreme, a lone knight patrols the streets of what was once London. Armed not with a lance, but with a trusty axe named Babe—and occasionally a dragon—she battles the daily threats that plague the city, wielding both magic and a sharp wit to survive.
But beneath her fearless exterior lies a dangerous secret. If the vampire overlords ever uncover her true nature, execution will be swift and merciless. Avoiding them has always been the safest course—until now.
When a vampire prince with a deadly reputation and an agenda full of mysteries enters her path, resistance is not an option. Bound by duty to his command, she must embark on a mission that raises more questions than answers. The undeniable heat between them only complicates matters further.
Trapped in a deadly game, she must complete the job—because if the mission doesn’t end her, the truth just might.

What I love about the Midnight Empire: The Tower series by Annabel Chase:
The writing is fantastic and the story is edge of your seat reading! I love the romance and watching the relationship between London and Callan develop. I also love seeing London grow and become a better version of herself!
What I didn’t love about it:
Although it’s fantasy violence, some of it was more than I liked. This a great series when you want to be totally immersed in the story. I never found my mind wandering.
Spice level:
This series is medium in terms of spice. There is sometimes crude humor and innuendo. I wouldn’t call this a spicy series as there were no scenes I skipped and nothing really explicit but neither would I recommend it to a young reader.
Language:
There are mild swear words throughout. They are appropriate to the scenes and characters and there are no F-bombs.
Violence:
This story has action, danger and a higher level of violence than I usually like. This is the kind of series I have to follow with a book that is more mild. I have a low tolerance for violence so others might rate it differently.
Length:
This series has four books. They are all on the shorter side, around 250 pages.
