Midnight Empire: New Dawn by Annabel Chase includes the following books: Golden Hood, Midnight Rebel, Midnight Burns
Annabel Chase concludes the Midnight Empire saga…
Midnight Empire: New Dawn, is the final series in the Midnight Empire, and takes place in a dystopian version of our world. For reference, Midnight Empire: The Tower follows London and takes place in England. Midnight Empire: The Restoration follows Britt and takes place in New York. And Midnight Empire: New Dawn follows Aster and takes place in The Wilds, in Canada and Alaska.
Annabel Chase is one of my favorite authors. She is a very talented writer and crafts a terrific story. This series has great characters and really concludes London and Britt’s tales. What I don’t love is the way Aster’s story is resolved- because it really never is. I kept thinking there must be another series to tie up the loose ends but everything I’ve seen has this series as the last in the Midnight Empire world. I’m sorry to say that finishing the last book felt a little deflating.
In this series, Aster and her band of vigilantes attempt to keep some sort of balance by stealing from the vampires what they are taking from the humans. I love how Aster’s inner compass points true north. Of all the heroines in these series, she is probably the most righteous in her mission and her viewpoint. Thus, she is the perfect candidate to fulfil prophecy and end the Eternal Night.
Aster has come to symbolize hope…
Aster is a cunning and elusive outlaw, a modern-day Robin Hood who roams The Wild, stealing from the rich and aiding the poor alongside her loyal band of werewolves and a perpetually grumpy wizard. Ever since her coven was destroyed, she has lived in the shadows, protected by those who benefit from her deeds. But if Lord Doran and his ruthless vampire rangers ever uncover her true identity and formidable abilities, she knows her fate would be sealed—most likely as a charred corpse.
When a mysterious and deadly disease begins claiming human lives, Aster becomes an unlikely source of hope. However, she quickly realizes that humans aren’t the only ones seeking answers. Lord Doran demands her findings, and their first encounter leaves her more unsettled than she cares to admit. Any reaction other than pure disdain is unacceptable, yet she struggles to ignore the unexpected pull between them. Meanwhile, another powerful figure offers assistance—one who doesn’t see her as a target.
As Aster delves deeper into the investigation, a new and dangerous force emerges, and the blame falls squarely on her shoulders. This time, the threat isn’t coming from vampires—it’s something far more insidious. With the body count rising and the pressure mounting, she is forced into a perilous game where every move could mean life or death.
Dragged from The Wild and thrust into an unfamiliar and treacherous realm, Aster must confront the truth of a prophecy that ties her fate to the world’s survival. With new allies, deadly enemies, and sacrifices looming, she prepares for a battle that could cost her everything—including those she loves and the very world she fights to protect.

What I love about Midnight Empire: New Dawn by Annabel Chase:
I love that this series really wraps up the Tower and Restoration series. So many questions about the dystopian world and how it came to be are answered here. I love the main character, Aster. She feels like a leader we would all follow.
What I didn’t love about it:
I didn’t love the ending. While London and Britt’s stories are beautifully concluded in this series, Aster’s story is left as kind of a mess. I really appreciate a story that feels complete and one left me with questions.
Spice level:
This series is mild in terms of spice. There’s some romance but the emphasis is definitely on the action.
Language:
This series has a few mild swear words. They were always appropriate to the scene and character.
Violence:
This series is medium in terms of violence. There is action and suspense as well as danger and some torture. The whole premise of this world is that vampires are the overlords and they take what they want. There are some scenes with the Master Inquisitor that get intense but it never got bad enough that I felt I needed to skip pages. I’m a violence wimp so what feels rough to me might not bother others at all.
Length:
This series has three books. They are on the short side, around 250 pages each.
