The Magical Artifacts Institute series by Isa Medina includes the following books: Finding Fae Artifacts, Playing Fae Games, Breaking Fae Spells, Fixing Fae Problems, Choosing Fae Gifts
A fun, fast-paced Fae story…
Isa Medina is a fairly new author and has quickly become one of my favorites. I believe this series is her first one and it’s so fun! I will say up front that you can see her evolve as a writer throughout these books. I think what she does best is write dialogue. I love the characters, particularly Maddie and her snarky tone.
Aidan is so stiff and unfriendly that it’s all you can do not to smack him. But then we get to know him better and appreciate why he does what he does. I also love the way Medina describes the fae realm. She does a good job bringing to life this alternate world where magic exists.
As the series progresses we learn that all is not as it seems at the Magical Artifacts Institute. So even when she lands her dream job, Maddie has tons of obstacles to overcome with Aidan by her side.
This story has plenty of surprises, romance and action and each book truly gets even better. It’s a fun and delightful book escape that I hope you enjoy!
Maddie was meant for more…
Maddie has always been driven by the dream of joining the prestigious Magical Artifacts Institute as an artifact hunter. Even rejection followed by rejection hasn’t deterred her ambition. But when she stumbles upon a dangerous Fae artifact hidden in the basement of her latest temp job, she sees it as the perfect opportunity to prove her worth.
Her plans, however, are immediately derailed by Aidan, a frustratingly by-the-book member of the Institute, who arrives just in time to claim the artifact for himself. Tensions flare, but the situation quickly worsens when Aidan accidentally triggers a binding spell that locks them within a few feet of each other.
To make matters worse, a terrifying Fae hound is unleashed, bent on hunting them down. Now, with the artifact as a dangerous prize, the two must navigate a series of challenges: breaking the binding spell, escaping the deadly hound, and uncovering the identity of someone willing to kill for the artifact’s power.
It’s a tall order, but she’s more than ready for the challenge. Can she prove she’s exactly what the Magical Artifacts Institute needs?
In this deadly game, can Aidan and Maddie hold on to their lives and their hearts?

What I love about the Magical Artifacts Institute series by Isa Medina:
I love the characters! Maddie especially is so sassy and snarky. She is underpowered and outmatched but she brings her optimism and pluck to every situation and you can’t help rooting for her! I also love the stark contrast between her and Aidan and how they complement each other. It’s really fun to watch their personalities evolve and see them grow as people throughout the series!
What I didn’t love about it:
The writing at the beginning of the series doesn’t flow as well. It’s a totally fun story and definitely worth the read as it gets better and better!
Spice level:
This series has little spice. There are a couple of kisses and a scene at the very end that alludes to more. There is definitely a romance but most of the series only really hints at the relationship.
Language:
There are a few mild swear words throughout and no F-bombs.
Violence:
This story is pretty mild in terms of violence. There is plenty of action and danger but nothing too graphic or explicit.
Length:
Although there are five books in this series, they are novella length- between 70 and 170 pages. It’s a quick read.
