Moonhaven Cove by Dusty Rose

True love meets magic! A review of the Moonhaven Cove series by Dusty Rose

The Moonhaven Cove series by Dusty Rose includes the following books: Wanted: Vampire Assistant, Pixie Problems, Bearly Yours, Incurably Cupid

Dusty Rose is an author to follow…

Dusty Rose is an intriguing new writer. Her work is clean with plenty of romance and danger and it takes place in Moonhaven Cove, a magically camouflaged town for supernaturals. You can tell that she is a new writer but each book seems to get better and I notice that her style and character depth improves.

Oftentimes you find an author that has lots of books out but if you go back to their first releases, you can see a learning curve. I’m very optimistic about Dusty Rose. She reminds me of K.M. Shea, who writes such interesting characters and plots but does it in a very PG rated kind of way.

This series is really a collection of standalone books that take place in the same town and have overlapping characters and stories. You don’t necessarily have to but I would recommend reading them in order. The first follows Mia, an empath and Draven, a vampire. The second tells the story of Dice, a pixie and Rhys, an elf. The third book is about Emrie, a bear shifter and Roarke, a dragon shifter. And the fourth book follows Indie, a cupid and Mesmer, a gargoyle.

We meet most if not all of the characters briefly in the first book and they continue to be woven through each other’s stories. I should note that I am eager to read the fourth book which comes out March 2025 (I’ve been worried about Mesmer since book one!).

A story of four magical women…

Book 1: She’s fierce and full of sunshine. He’s a thousand-year-old vampire. Together, they’re pure magic.

Life has never been kind to Mia—it knocked her down, then made sure to kick her while she was there. But everything changes the day she stumbles upon an unusual newspaper ad for a vampire’s assistant.

Fast forward a week and Mia has learned that not only do supernaturals exist, but she’s one of them! And the moment she meets Draven Leto, the enigmatic billionaire CEO of Leto Enterprises, her life changes forever. Can she embrace her new reality without losing her heart?

Book 2: Dice is a pixie, and if supernaturals had a ranking system, she’d be buried somewhere beneath level zero. No super-strength, no lightning speed, no genius IQ—just a handful of pixie magic that barely outperforms a human street magician’s tricks.

So when a ruthless pack of coyote shifters, led by their Alpha, set their sights on her and threaten the last family she has left, she seeks sanctuary in Moonhaven Cove. There she ends up working for a flirty star elf Rhys at his comedy club, helping the world’s unluckiest leprechaun avoid man-eating office equipment, befriending a genie, and trying not to question the sheriff’s unsettling devotion to strawberry yogurt. Romance is not on her to-do list.

But Rhys is charming, kind, endlessly fun and Dice finds herself wondering if she might need more in her life than survival.

Book 3: For two years Emrie has endured one disastrous date after another, all while Roarke, her best friend, has stood steadfastly by her side. But the truth is, she doesn’t want to date anyone else—she wants him. But there are two glaring problems.

First, Roarke isn’t just any shifter; he’s one of the last five dragon shifters in the world. His kind faces extinction, and the only way to save them is for him to find his true mate and have children. And second, for reasons no one can understand, her mating ability is broken. Unlike other shifters, she has no scent, the very thing that allows mates to recognize each other. Without it, she can never form the connection she craves.

Amidst it all, someone is hunting Emrie. With Roarke by her side and her pack at her back- can she evade and survive? And can there be hope for a broken bear shifter and a dragon shifter bound by duty?

Book 4: (Available March 2025) Indie is a Cupid with a serious problem—she’s terrible at her job. As a Cupid, her role is to match people with their ideal partners, but her track record is abysmal. The final straw? Mesmer, a strikingly gorgeous yet completely unmatchable Gargoyle.

For the past year, Indie has tirelessly paired him with numerous potential partners, yet nothing sticks. Whether he’s impossibly picky or simply oblivious, Mesmer remains utterly uninterested- even failing to notice when someone is flirting with him. If she can’t find him a match soon, her Cupid license is on the line.

Desperate, Indie takes a drastic step- revealing herself to him, abandoning the usual behind-the-scenes approach. If Mesmer won’t respond to subtle nudges, she’ll give him direct words, clear instructions, and maybe even a few threats to ensure he finds his forever partner. But the more time she spends with him, the more she realizes Mesmer is nothing like she expected. Beneath his gruff exterior and monosyllabic replies lies a protective, tender-hearted soul who seems to see her in a way no one else ever has.

Now, Indie is facing a new problem—one she never saw coming. She’s falling in love with the one person she was never supposed to. And for someone who never truly believed in love, that might be the scariest thing of all.

Moonhaven Cove by Dusty Rose

What I love about  the Moonhaven Cove series by Dusty Rose:

This is an adventurous and light-hearted series and the writing continues to get better. It’s clean without being juvenile. Such fun!

What I didn’t love about it:

Sometimes the writing is a bit choppy.

Spice level:

This series is mild in terms of spice. There’s plenty of romance but it’s very sweet, not graphic at all.

Language:

I would have to reread to be sure but I don’t believe there are any swear words in this series.

Violence:

There is action and suspense as well as danger but nothing graphic or overly disturbing.

Length:

This series has four books- although only three are available at the time I’m writing this review. They are all short to medium length, around 300 pages.
