K.M. Shea triumphs again…

The Gate of Myth and Power series is one of my very favorite stories by probably my favorite author. What a treat to get to review it! This trilogy follows the antics of Chloe, a special brand of shifter that doesn’t fall into any of the normal classifications. In the city of Magiford, where humans and supernaturals coexist, she doesn’t seem to belong anywhere.

It’s fascinating how K.M. Shea weaves this story because Noxtus, the elf king who finds her, also doesn’t belong. They’re both on the run and intent on protecting those they love. For Chloe that’s her loving adopted family and for Noxtus it’s the hidden elf population he rules.

This story is very well written, without plot holes or spelling errors. It has a happy and satisfying ending with several twists and turns throughout. My kiddos have cats and the way K.M. Shea describes Chloe in cat form makes me think she must have cats as well!

It’s fun to walk beside our heroine as she gains strength and confidence throughout the books. It also doesn’t hurt that overpowered Noxtus is downright swoon-worthy and hiding a dark secret of his own. I totally enjoyed this fast-paced read!

Chloe is running scared…

Chloe has a secret- she can transform into a housecat.

While it’s a fun kind of magic, in a world brimming with vampires and werewolves, it hardly makes her formidable. The supernatural community has branded her an outcast, leaving her perpetually vulnerable to harassment. And no one is worse than the local fae, who regularly indulge in “capture the cat-girl” games.

During one such pursuit, she shifts into her feline form and encounters him for the first time.

Noctus exudes power so immense it’s almost blinding, and even her fae tormentors can’t meet his gaze. But her situation takes a chilling turn when Noctus decides to take her with him—as a pet.

Why, of all days, did he choose today to adopt a cat?

Things only spiral further when she discovers he’s not just any supernatural being but an elf, a race believed to have been wiped out centuries ago. And Noctus isn’t merely an elf—he’s an elven king with layers of dangerous secrets to protect.

Unfortunately for her, being his “pet” means she’s privy to far more than she wants to know. Whether it’s sneaking into secured buildings, examining classified documents, or chasing down shady supernaturals, she’s along for the ride.

The problem? If Noctus ever realizes she’s not a real cat, she’ll learn firsthand how elves treat intruders to their secrets.

Gate of Myth and Power series by K.M. Shea

What I love about the Gate of Myth and Power series by K.M. Shea:

I love the story and the Magiford world, which takes place in our world but with humans knowing that magic exists. I love Chloe’s family and the dynamics between the siblings. I also love that Noxus is kind of a bad-ass. My favorite thing about the series is watching Chloe grow and evolve. Who she is as a person stays the same but her confidence and abilities expand in such a satisfying way!

What I didn’t love about it:

This is one of my favorite series and favorite authors! I can’t think of anything I didn’t love!

Spice level:

This series has little to no spice. There is definitely a romance but nothing beyond a few kisses- no graphic details at all.

Language:

The language is mild. I’d have to reread to be certain but I believe there are no swear words.

Violence:

This story is mild in terms of violence. There is plenty of action and danger but the story is told in a non-graphic way. I can read this series, fall asleep and have no bad dreams!

Length:

The is a shorter series with medium-length books. It has three books and they each are around 350-400 pages.
