The Crossroads Queen series by Annabel Chase includes the following books: Dead to the World, Dead of the Night, Dead Last, Dead Wrong, Dead Weight, Play Dead, Dead Heat, Half Dead, Dead End
Enter the town of Fairhaven…
This terrific series by Annabel Chase has all the elements of a great story- powerful bad boy demon, hidden society quietly taking over the world and an overpowered woman running out of funds while she hides from the world and fixes up her house. Ok, so maybe it’s not the most traditional of storylines but holy smokes is it fun!
When I first started this series, I thought it was completed at three books. I read fast and as I neared the end of what was supposed to be a trilogy I couldn’t believe how many unanswered questions I had. Annabel Chase is a true professional- she would never leave a story half finished! That’s when I realized this would be a longer series. But never did I imagine waiting for six more books!
Well, thank goodness I started because this series has been a treat. Lorelei is a fantastic and unusual heroine. She’s surrounded by a fun and snarky supporting cast of characters and paired with the perfect hero (even if he is a prince of hell). I particularly love her house ghosts and the way we learn that one can even improve after death.
Lorelei has a huge secret that she’s been taught to protect since childhood. This has left her perpetually alone and on the run. But now, settled in the town of Fairhaven she hopes to plant roots and keep to herself. As her life and heart become overrun with acquaintances that morph into friends, she finds it harder and harder to remain solitary. I loved watching Lorelei grow and evolve- it’s the best part of any story!
Lorelei Clay isn’t your typical supernatural…
She doesn’t just dabble in magic—she walks the fine line between the living and the dead, conjuring nightmares, speaking to spirits, and, most impressively, making the perfect crispy bacon. No spells required.
Determined to leave her past behind, Lorelei has settled into Fairhaven, a sleepy Pennsylvania town with a supernatural underbelly. She’s pouring her savings—and her solitude—into restoring a crumbling Gilded Age mansion bordering the local cemetery.
But her plans for a quiet life are shattered when a teenager goes missing, forcing her to navigate the town’s tangled web of power players: the no-nonsense police chief, an enigmatic nightclub owner, a cursed vampire, a lethal assassins guild, a werewolf pack, and a coven she’d rather avoid.
Lorelei only wants to find the girl and retreat behind her castle walls before anyone uncovers her secrets. But fate has other ideas—especially when it comes to the dangerously alluring Kane Sullivan, a former prince of Hell with demons of his own.
Just as Lorelei starts to embrace Fairhaven—and the people in it—her past catches up with her. Kane’s old enemies have finally found him, and they’re willing to burn the town to the ground to get what they want. With Fairhaven under siege and her new family at risk, Lorelei is done hiding. She’s ready to fight.
The town that gave her a home needs her now more than ever, and she won’t let it fall—not without a battle.
The stakes have never been higher. The cost has never been deadlier. But Lorelei Clay is no stranger to sacrifice. And this time, she’s all in.

What I love about the Crossroads Queen series by Annabel Chase:
Good writing, great characters and an unusual story. I really love this series!
What I didn’t love about it:
I didn’t realize this would be such a long series and I hated waiting for the next book to come out.
Spice level:
This series has mild-ish spice. There is definitely a romance but it develops slowly. When the characters do get together there are no explicit scenes. There are characters that talk casually and somewhat crudely about sex.
Language:
There are mild, occasional swear words and no F-bombs.
Violence:
This story is mild to medium in terms of violence. There is plenty of action and danger. I’m more sensitive to violence than most and it never was too much for me.
Length:
This is a long series- nine books. But the books are on the shorter side- they average about 250 pages.
Where to get the Crossroads Queen series by Annabel Chase:
At the time I’m writing this review, the first 8 books are available for sale on Kindle or free with your Kindle Unlimited subscription. They are also available in paperback on Amazon or as an audiobook on Audible. Book number nine will be released on April 17th, 2025!
